For the perfect custom shade fit
Before you dive into the installation, take a look at this quick guide. It runs you through the tools you need and gives a basic overview of how you'll be measuring your space, making the process smoother and more predictable.
Steel tape measure (not cloth)
To record your measurements
(Optional) Makes it much easier
Cloth tape measures can stretch over time, leading to inaccurate readings. Always use a rigid steel tape measure for precise dimensions.
Even new windows can shift or settle. Always measure in three places (top, middle, bottom) as window frames are rarely perfectly square.
Accuracy is key. Don't round up or down to the nearest half inch. Record your measurements to the exact 1/8th of an inch.
Our skylight shades are designed for an "Inside Mount" (fitting perfectly inside the window recess) for the cleanest, most integrated look.
Follow these three crucial steps to ensure your new smart blinds fit seamlessly into your space.

Record your measurements for the perfect fit
Everything you need to know about getting the perfect fit.
When measuring depth, you must measure the "usable depth." This means measuring from the glass to the outermost edge of the recess, but subtracting any space taken up by protruding handles, cranks, or sensors. Your shade needs a clear, unobstructed path to travel smoothly.
Window frames are almost never perfectly square due to house settling or construction variances. By measuring the top, middle, and bottom (or left, center, right), we ensure your shade is made to fit the tightest point so it operates smoothly without scraping the sides.
No. Please provide the exact, raw measurements of your window recess. Our manufacturing team automatically calculates the necessary deductions (usually a fraction of an inch) to ensure the shade fits and operates flawlessly inside the frame. Providing pre-deducted measurements may result in a shade that is too small.
If your skylight is high up, use a sturdy A-frame ladder and highly recommend having a helper to hold the ladder and assist with the tape measure. Safety comes first. If you are uncomfortable measuring it yourself, consider hiring a local handyman or professional to take the measurements for you.
Now that you have your measurements, you can confidently customize your smart shades.
